Some very cheap changes can increase a building's energy efficiency. This applies to houses, flats, and commercial property. E.g. draft stoppers under doors, fill gaps behind architraves, external shading to block summer sun. Energy Victoria offers rebates for energy efficiency changes. My idea is to increase uptake - more publicity, education campaign, etc. More expensive options (e.g. replace windows with double-glazed) are also great, but the cheap changes offer a huge bang-for-buck.
It's also good to consider how these grants can help people who are renting, or in share housing, and their access to this support.
These schemes have saved us money on our energy bills.
Initial investments to the above ideas can have energy savings lasting for the life of the building. In addition to that, The local councils can enforce some of the sensible ideas right at the building plans approval stage.
Would this idea also address how households can move across from a gas appliances to electric? How could this work? Coud my old gas appliance be recycled?
