Most of what I have come to understand about solar at home, is that unless you are at home most of the time that solar is producing electricity, it is being fed back to the grid for a diminished return and rebought at night when solar is not producing. It seems counterintuitive to not support battery storage which would at least lessen demand on current available energy. With growth in population it can only get worse. Suggest that Government subsidises battery purchase the way it did panels
Yes batteries are expensive and subsidizing them is necessary. And for those people not able to put them in at all yet, there are energy plans for 10am to 3pm slot at 8.5c KwH instead of the usual 30c a KwH. Another company has free electricity in midday hours. If you are at home in the daytime, or can set your appliances for that slot, you can save quite a lot. If we dont get as many as possible onto solar plus battery, the whole community suffers from continuing fossil fuel sources.
Subsidies for fossil fuel companies have been very high for many decades. That continues even now. We have to make the new energy sources usable and cost-effective now. Subsidies for batteries for households help people make use of their own electricity for longer period of the day and do not have the need for additional wiring or grid work
to have cheaper clean energy
Subsidies are distorting the market. They are good for getting an industry to start but then they need to be wound back as they are now artificially inflating the price of the equipment allowing the sellers and distributors to maintain high prices for their own profit.
Currently the financial incentive for solar panels in minimal if you are not at home during the day as the cost for evening grid electricity is often higher than the the non-solar rate,
further to this point, with all of the emphasis on Multi storey dwellings etc. Legislate (if not already done) that entire roof areas are turned into power generation plants with all communal services powered under their own steam. must be solar and or wind
