NUCLEAR Power Not Ready until 2040. ONLY SIX PROBLEMS!

Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), from Parkville, highlights existing EVIDENCE. The associated Timescales, Expense, Skills GAP, Legal and regulatory Barriers, and SOCIAL Acceptance of nuclear power renders the technology UNPROVEN in Australia.💰🕑🎲❓ Thats 15 years in which to reduce CO2 & Costs starting Now & not relying on a nuclear fantasy/distraction.⏳ Clapped out Coal clunkers need Replacement over next 4 years. Points

It seems unrealistic to me to think that we could build nuclear any time soon, when we have so much opposition to fairly modest solar and wind projects in this country. How much more opposition would there be to nuclear reactors? Even offshore wind projects, where the wind turbines are so far away they can't been seen from land, are being blocked at council level. Nuclear will come too late, and when it does come it'll be more expensive than renewables.

Nuclear is proven technology that has been operating successfully in other countries for decades. There is no guarantee the renewables alone will provide a reliable grid for future generations and we do not know the total cost given that the infrastructure needs regular replacement with imported components. World banks and big Tech are behind nuclear, MEU in Latrobe Valley are for nuclear. Lift the ban and watch the expertise flow into the country.

Nuclear has its use in some countries, but is vulnerable to one attack on the centre of a complete system. It uses much more water than a coal plant - water is scarce in Australia. The discharge has to be dealt with in a system of rivers that are prone to low summer levels. Our lakes are mere ponds. Sun and wind are plentiful. Lack of public support is likely to delay decisions about location, waste disposal and safety. Build on strengths not on vulnerabilities. Time to act is short.

Unless modular nuclear plants are safe and commercially available, this will be the case

2050 is our net zero target it would be a win win situation if we had nuclear up and running by 2040. The Barakah nuclear plant in the UAE was Korean built in 12 years.

It should be part of our long term plan.

Why is it an Australia discussion? Nuclear is a global energy tool. Agree all the frameworks need to be developed but this is the same for every new industry, that isn't a barrier to doing it. There are plenty of developed nuclear countries such as France where their experience and frameworks can be leveraged to shortcut the time to develop our own.

Australia must look beyond 2040 to provide energy security for future generations. We need to go down the nuclear path in tandem with renewables to ensure our 2050 targets are reached.

Any government that fails to plan for the future is a failed government. To not explore nuclear just because we can't have it tomorrow is ridiculous.
