Increase Maternity Leave to 22 weeks

Increase Maternity Leave to 22 weeks

Consult with social partners in MCESD with a view to increasing maternity leave from 18 to 22 weeks, with the additional four weeks being subsidised by Government, and introducing four weeks of paternity leave because we believe that fathers must be more present during the first days of their children’s lives. Following agreement with the social partners, we commit to implementing this proposal.

Points

Apart from increasing the length of maternity leave, the flexibility of the time taken should be considered. It is more helpful to the family and the employer.

I think that at least one of the parents can benefit from at least a year paid maternity leave as the children need their parents in their early year of life.
